Life of a Legend...Lost

The world has lost one more musically-gifted artist at such a very young age.  The British blues singer, Amy Winehouse, lost her battle with addiction and depression, and was found deceased yesterday, at age 27.  Ironically, it was the great Jim Morrison of The Doors, that lost his life at the same age, many years ago.
Today, halfway around the world, fans were mourning Amy's loss, and in Germany it was even noted by memorializing her flamboyant beehive hair 'style' in cupcakes!

Wir Machen Cupcakes in Munich, Germany  were quoted from their Facebook page, "Our tribute to a very talented young lady. Unfortunately hunted by dark demons. Our Amy Winehouse inspired cupcake!"

Now if only these cupcakes could sing!

Pink Princesses...

Nothing is more fun than watching little ones actually figure out what a birthday party is all about!  Usually it's around 3 years old, when they finally 'get it'!
Well, a few days ago, I created Pink Princess Party favor cones, for a friend whose daughter was turning three.  The cones were for a dozen little 'princesses' to take home, from a very special birthday party for two very special girls.
Using pretty pink paper, I punched a heart border along the edges...

...then, I added pink ribbon bows
left over from an earlier project,

and tied on little pink circle
'thank you' tags that I punched
with a 2-inch paper punch,
and tied to the cones
with pink raffia...

... I placed sweet favors of 'princess' candy bracelets, and
'crown' lollipops - into the cones...

...while the mom added her own goodies
of Disney stickers and
colorful little metal bracelets...
...and then displayed them in an acrylic cone stand, that was tied
with pink tulle and gold ribbon!.

After tumbling and bouncing, it was finally, time for cake!
So, what do you serve at a Pink Princess Party?....
Pink cupcakes with little crowns
on top, of course!

Happy Birthday
Logan and Taylor!

it's summertime, and the livin' is easy!

On that note, I happened across a few summer-themed delights, that are sure to please, and I just had to share!

Summer bug cupcakes.....

 Butterfly Cupcakes....

Corn -on-the-Cob Cupcakes......

Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes.......

Ladybugs in the Grass Cupcakes........

...and of course, it's not summer without the beach, sharks, and cupcakes!

Hope you're having a lazy, crazy, summer, too!

A Retro Remembrance...

Try living without internet service for 2 weeks, and you quickly learn how dependent we are on this way of communication.  That's exactly what happened when I thought I would be able to access a wireless connection from anywhere on my recent mission trip...Boy, was I wrong!  Regardless of not having a connection, the experience was one I won't soon forget, and one I highly recommend to everyone.

I found myself in the city of Amarillo, Texas, on that famous iconic highway, also known as the 'Mother Road' - the Historic Route 66.  Because I'm a huge fan of the 1950's and '60's, I was drawn to everything of that era, and believe me, there was plenty!  I loved it!

One of the most recognizable images is the famous 'Cadillac Ranch' west of Amarillo.  Created by the local eccentric Stanley Marsh, the 10 Cadillac cars buried halfway in the ground, eerily draws thousands of viewers each year, off the interstate, just to get a closer look, and add a spray of paint themselves. If only these painted beauties could talk!
I was informed that every year or so, the Cadillacs are painted a new coat of white, as a 'clean' slate, for more new colors of paint.  And believe it or not, there were hundreds of people spray-painting the cars or taking pictures, just as I was when these shots were taken.
Under a big blue Texas sky, this car image has become a famous message to us all....'Don't take yourself too seriously, just like Mr. Marsh, because it's in the unexpected that a person can find true happiness!'
